Introduction
Park Güell was an attempt to create a housing estate in a natural setting. Gaudí applied all his urban-planning know-how to the project and created an area of 20 hectares where there are no straight lines. Everything is undulating, distorted and sinuous, imbuing the place with a magical atmosphere.
Highlights include the hypostyle hall, an area originally intended to be used as a market place, which underpins a large plaza which boasts superb views of the city. The hall is accessed by a stairway decorated with highly original and imaginative motifs. Park Güell is Antoni Gaudí’s largest work.
