Boston is one of the most historic cities in the US, dating some 150 years older than the country itself. Boston's roots trace back to 1630, when the Massachusetts Bay Puritans arrived in New England in search of freedom of worship. With a fleet of 11 ships, they first landed in Salem and then settled near the Charles River and named their settlement Boston, after the English town from which they came. Today, the Boston-Worcester-Lawrence CMSA has a population of 5.5 million and is home to reknowned educational institutions such as Harvard and MIT.
