Granada Photo Gallery - Town Centre Part 2

I arrived in Granada in the late afternoon from Cordoba and with sunset well into the evening, I spent the remainder of my first day exploring the town centre. Although this place is famous for the Alhambra, don't overlook the town's key sights.

Basilica San Juan de Dios is a Baroque church built in the 18th century next to a hospital bearing the same name.

The Monasterio de San Jeronimo is a huge facility a little bit off the main town centre. However, it is still well worth a visit as its serene courtyards and large spaces are full of atmosphere and character. It was the first monaserty to be built after the Christian re-conquest.

While most of the rooms and the courtyard were simply decorated, the chapel was completely the opposite. Intricate carvings and paintings in all sorts of colours graced the interiors from floor to ceiling.

The neighbouring streets also have some interesting monumental architecture, making the stroll back towards the Cathedral ever more pleasant.

Iglesia de los San Justo y Pastor was built in the 16th century although it was ransacked during the War of Independence.

A neighbourhood spice and tea stand captivated my attention. As it was next to the Cathedral, I guessed the clientele was tourists, not locals.
