Ottawa Tulip Festival 2004

Commissioners Park
The National Capital Commission has been presenting this annual tulip exhibition since 1958. Of the million tulips in the exhibition, the highest concentration is in Commissioners Park on the banks of Dows Lake. The tulips were given to Canada from the Dutch in gratitude for letting Princess Juliana and her family stay in Canada during World War II and Canada's assistance in liberating the Netherlands. Since the 120,000 tulips in the first gift, the Dutch continue to send 20,000 bulbs to Canada each year.
