Shanghai Pudong District Photo Gallery

Introduction

Pudong New Area is located on the eastern side of Huangpu River. With a land area of 533.44 square kilometers and a permanent population of 1.63 million, Pudong has been transformed from a farming area into Shanghai's new financial district.

On April 18th, 1990, Chinese central government announced the opening up and development of Pudong. This was seen as an opportunity to build Shanghai into a major international economic, finance and trade center.

Shanghai Oriental Pearl Tower, 468m high above the natural ground level, is the highest tower in Asia.

Located at the tip of Lujiazui opposite to the world famous Bund of Shanghai, the designers organized 11 large and small spherical buildings at different heights together with some ground facilities, standing out among green trees and lawns, creating a poetic concept of "Big and small pearls drop onto a jade plate".

Jin Mao Building was designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and stands 421 m tall. Opened in 1998, the 88-storey building is both an office and hotel tower. The 555-room Grand Hyatt Hotel occupies the top 38 stories of the skyscraper.
