Adjacent to the temple is a market street selling many traditional Japanese products. Since the blooming season for cherry blossoms takes place in late March / early April, the street is specially decorated with cherry blossom branches.

    Yasukuni Shrine
Emperor Meiji ordered a shrine to be built in 1869 to commemorate the sacrifice of those who worked for the Imperial Restoration. Formerly Tokyo Shokonsha, it was renamed Yasukuni Jinja in 1879. Yasukuni symbolizes eternal peace and tranquility of the nation. However, many convicted war criminals from Japan's invasion of Asia in World War II are also buried here. Recent visits by government officials have stirred up much discontent across Asia.
