Founded in 1886, Vancouver is located in the southwest corner of British Columbia, at about 49° Latitude and 123° Longitude, next to the Pacific Ocean. With a population of about 500,000, Vancouver lies in a region of more than 2 million people, making it Canada's 3rd largest city. It is also Canada's largest port on the West Coast.
