Beng Mealea is not on the main tourist circuit and being 68km away from Siem Reap, is not part of the usual sightseeing itinerary. Your car hire around Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom, and its surrounding temples won't typically include coming out to here. I had made a separate car hire just for this temple. Built in the 12th century, it is attractive because it has been retained in its ruinous state. A series of galleries surround the central sanctuary, although what's left today are the large stone pieces that once formed the buildings. It's like you've rediscovered a treasure in the jungle.
