Angkor Wat Photo Gallery - Roluos Group

Just outside the main circuit 15 minutes away from Siem Reap, the Roluos Group consists of several temples that were once located in the first Khmer capital in the 9th century. Lolei sits on an artificial island in a small reservoir. The water is gone and the temple doesn't look like it's in a good state. Built in the late 9th century, it was dedicated on July 8, 893. A bit further down the road, Preah Ko is dedicated to the Hindu god of Shiva, with 6 brick towers on a single base that is surrounded by 2 enclosures. On the outer enclosure were 8 long halls. A water feature leads the way to Bakong, a huge temple-mountain also dedicated to Shiva. This is the largest temple in the group, with the shape representing Mt. Meru. 8 brick towers surround the pyramid, which rises 5 tiers with statues of stone elephants on the first 3 as guardians.
