Ponta Delgada's Town Centre

Ponta Delgada is the largest city in the Azores and its current capital. Mostly rebuilt in the early 19th century after a tsunami, the centre has many walkable streets with lots of shops and restaurants.

While I was based here during my time on Sao Miguel, the best part of the trip was not to explore the city, but rather to drive out to the countryside.

The food is quite decent with plenty of seafood and local sausages.

Built in the early 16th century, Igreja Matriz de Sao Sebastiao is Ponta Delgada's parish church.

It's also a nice stroll along the nearby waterfront promenade to check out the yachts and public swimming area right along the harbour.
