Mirador de Colón was built for the 1888 Universal Exhibition. The 50-m high column, ironically, points to Africa, rather than North America.

An elevator takes visitors to the small observation area below Columbus.

East - there was no shortage of nice boats in the protected waters.

South - it's not exactly a coherent waterfront promenade, but rather a mix of different uses.

Look down!

For the beach-lovers, after an outing by the sea, you can take this cable car up to the hills for a breezier view of the city.

West

North - Barcelona's vast urban landscape becomes quite evident, stretching from left to right all the way to the hills in the background.

The leafy La Ramblas stretches from the waterfront to the main city square. The green stands out well amidst the sea of buildings.
