Leave your car in one of the municipal parking lots and explore the historic city on foot. Before the crowds arrive, take the Fløibanen funicular railway up to Mount Fløyen, which is 320m above sea level and features a magnificent view. Unfortunately, I came early yet too late.
The funicular first opened in 1918 but the vehicles have been moderized to carry 80 passengers each time. This is a must-see attraction in the city, with over 2 million journeys made in 2018.
With crowds and technical difficulties with the funicular, opt for a comfortable downhill walk back to the city centre.
As the city re-emerges from the trees, you will pass by quiet residential neighbourhoods and pretty little streets.
