Berlin Photo Gallery
Berlin is quite under-rated compared to other European capitals. It hasn't been overrun by tourists despite a rich selection of things to see, with plenty of historic and cultural institutions on offer. I found a lot more to see here than in Frankfurt!Berlin isn't a very big city, and it is possible to walk most of the key attractions, which are roughly spread out along the east-west boulevard. If walking over 30,000 steps a day is not your thing, the extensive U and S-bahn network makes getting around quick and easy. With a Welcome Card that provides free public transport and discounted admissions, I set off under the late summer sun to re-explore a place I first visited almost 20 years ago. A Berlin Welcome Card Analysis - Is it worth it? 8-11 September 2025 Editor's Note : We're updating the gallery with 2025 content and slowly removing the previous photo set from 2006.

Day 1Start early at the Reichstag, which requires pre-booking to visit the glass dome. Grab their earliest slots to avoid the crowds and do it at least a few days beforehand on their website. They get snapped up quickly. Then continue south towards Potsdamer Platz to see a newly-built business district and then east towards Checkpoint Charlie, Gendarmenmarkt, and back up to Unter den Linden towards Neue Wache and Berliner Dom. That should be enough for a long day of walking. I would suggest paying to go up the Kollhoff Tower in Potsdamer Platz and the Berliner Dom so you see the city from opposite ends. |

Day 2Today's theme revolves around Cold War history and the Berlin Wall's remnants scattered around the city. Begin at the East Side Gallery and work your way west to Kulturbrauerei, the Berlin Wall Memorial, and Nordbahnhof former ghost station. In the afternoon, head back to Museum Island, passing by Hackescher Markt's revitalized courtyards. Pick a few select exhibitions to see at the museums. There is a lot going on here and you won't be able to cover them all unless you spend a week here! My trip focused on museums dedicated to Berlin's division and the Cold War so if you want to explore art, plan at least a full day on Museum Island.

ExtrasIf you have extra time, deep dive into a few more city attractions or venture a bit further out to explore. These places are accessible by U or S-bahn relatively quickly. |

Day 3Spend the whole day in Potsdam. There is a lot to see and it's worth venturing beyond Sanssouci Park to also cover Neuer Garten on the other side of town. |
