Mount Artxanda has been a place for leisure and entertainment since the end of the 19th century. A funicular was built from the town centre that opened in 1915, and the system was completely rebuilt in 1983.It's a short ride up and there is a park at the top offering good views of Bilbao. As it faces southwest, I decided to go up during the morning hoping the sun shines in the right direction on the city.
The park has a lot of space to handle crowds although you need to do a bit of discovering to find the Guggenheim nestled in between trees.
A bit further downhill, Etxebarria Park occupies a former steel factory just above the old town, but you won't be able to spot the Guggenheim here.
