Blackpool Beach Photo Gallery

Blackpool's sandy beaches and sea water have drawn crowds since the mid-18th century, turning this town into a famous resort. Back then, bathing in salt water was believed to improve your health, and families liked to bring their children here to have fun, escaping from their polluted cities.

The railways arrived in 1846 and by 1851, the town's population was merely 2500 although expanding rapidly. At its heyday, Blackpool attracted over 10 million visitors a year, with the working class being the major summer clientele.

The beach lines the city's long coastline with lots of public spaces to rest and enjoy the sea views. The tram also runs along the waterfront, which used to operate vintage double decker vehicles.
