Cartagena Photo Gallery - Getsemani

Getsemani is the outer part of the historic centre, which was formerly home to artisans, as opposed to the nobility in the inner city. The area is dominated by low houses that have been restored into restaurants and hotels.

In Bogota and Medellin, graffiti was a symbol of the country's rebirth. There was less of it in Cartagena, probably because of the historic preservation within the city centre.

Upon entering the side streets, the quaint residential architecture becomes apparent. Small balconies with shade so residents can sit out reading a book, flowers blooming on the walls, and the food cart selling fresh produce.

The small but cozy plaza in front of La Trinidad is supposedly a busy hotspot at night. The church was built in 1643.

On a prominent city block is the large Teatro Colon.

Across the street is the imposing and modern Centro Internacional de Convenciones. Built in 1972, it can hold up to 4000 people.

A short but beeautiful waterfront promenade leads to the gate into the inner city.
