Copenhagen Photo Gallery - City Centre Walk |
||
Copenhagen is a very walkable city and the historic centre is a good place to explore randomly. While walking from one main attraction to another, you're bound to see some of the buildings and scenes on this page.Across the street from City Hall, the Palace Hotel was built in 1910 and was leased to Scandic in 2009 as the chain's 7th hotel in the city.
The National Museum occupies the Prince's Palace, built in the 1740s.
Stroget is the busy pedestrian shopping street that stretches 1.1km from City Hall to Kongens Nytorv. It's actually a nickname to refer to a number of different streets.
Vor Frue Kirke was consecrated in 1829 but a church has been here since the 13th century and has witnessed a number of historic events among the ruling royalty.
Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek was founded by Carl Jacobsen and opened in 1897. Carl used the profits from his brewery to amass a great collection of art and cultural artifacts and donated it to the public realm in 1888 and 1899 with this museum built to house it. \
Tivoli opened in 1843, giving inspiration to Walt Disney to create his own theme park. The garden was originally outside the defensive moats but is in a central location today just next to the main train station. Note that after paying admission to enter the park, you still need to pay extra for the rides, such as the historic wooden roller coaster from 1914.
