Doha Photo Gallery - Qatar National Library

Doha has a university town in the city's west end, conveniently connected by the metro. Inside this huge campus is the Qatar National Library, which was inaugurated in 2018 and is home to over a million books. Designed by Rem Koolhaas, the structure resembles 2 pieces of paper being pulled apart and folded diagonally into a shell.

Education City is a 12 square km campus home to several Western universities' Qatar campuses. These include Carnegie Mellon, Georgetown, Northwestern, and Texas A&M. With 8 universities and 13 schools, the total student population exceeds 10,000.

Besides books, there are large exhibition areas within the library. This one showcases the tradition of book-making in Morocco from tanneries, papermills, market, to the book binder's workshop where manuscripts are assembled. Morocco's industry was among the most active in the Islamic world, flourishing from the 12th century until the decline of French colonial rule in the 1940s. Many of these beautiful books and manuscripts are copies of Korans and other religious works.

Downstairs, they have on display all sorts of artifacts from across the Middle East. From above, it looks like an archaeological dig into the ground.
