Dublin Photo Gallery - Fancy Shopping

George's Street Arcade was originally the South City Markets, Dublin's first purpose-built Victorian shopping centre. Opened in 1881, a fire destroyed it in 1892 and the market was rebuilt in the same style, re-opening in 1894.

Just a short block away, the Powerscourt Townhouse dates from 1774 as a residence. 59 South William Street was home to Richard Wingfield 3rd Viscount Powerscourt and his wife. They used the elaborately-decorated Georgian house to entertain guests. Today, it has been modernized into a shopping mall with a lot of greenery inside the airy inner courtyard.

While Stephen's Green Shopping Centre has a glass structure that looks historic, it actually dates from 1988. In late 2023, Council granted planning permission to redevelop the mall in a 100 million euro proposal, noting the building is not a protected structure.

Irish whiskey is unique as it is triple distilled as opposed to twice for its Scottish counterparts. There are a few brands that offer a factory experience, but I went to the Irish Whiskey Museum instead, which is not affiliated with any specific brand, to understand its history, prohibition, and finally to taste 3 types of whiskey as part of its classic tour, setting me back 19.55 euros for a morning visit.

With a guide, a whiskey novice will be able to fully enjoy the product, from swirling it to giving it a smell test with your mouth and not the nose.
