Dusseldorf Photo Gallery - Carlsplatz Markt

At the large Carlsplatz square just south of the old town is a covered market offering both fresh produce and cooked items. I was a bit surprised how busy it was on a weekday afternoon when I visited.

There are some interesting shops, such as a shop selling just potatoes, a sushi bar, and a steak joint that you can smell from a few shopfronts away. Everything is laid out nicely, the aisles are clean, and the arrangements are visually appealing.

I also explored neighbouring streets to find a few interesting shops. There was a long line snaking out of Hinkel, an artisan bakery founded in 1891 and is still run by the same family, now in the 5th generation.

Lowensenf sells mustards of various flavours. Besides the typical glass bottles, they also offer products in traditional stoneware pots. At the back of the shop is a small exhibition area across a few cabinets.
