Hakodate Photo Gallery

The view from Mount Hakodate is quite famous in Japan and it seemed to be the most bustling point in the city. Just as the sun started to set, I got onto the ropeway for the short 3-minute ride to the observation deck.

The rest of the city centre seems quite deserted down below.

The famous view ... many people were already stationed at the cold summit waiting for sunset. Below, many tour groups were arriving on the ropeway and hiding in the relatively warm indoor observation deck.

The airport is just east of the city centre.

Many tourists seem to have forgotten there is the back side with lots of good views, too.

As sunset approached, there was a crowd several people deep at the best spot overlooking the city.
