'Kowloon Walled City: A Cinematic Journey' Movie Set Exhibition (October) | |||
|
Similar to the exhibition at Airside mall earlier, this special exhibition shows off the movie sets related to a film set in the Walled City, Twilight of the Warriors.Opened in May 2025, these movie sets are re-built on the former site of the Walled City, which has since been demolished and turned into a park. They are expected to be on display for 3 years. Admission is free but you need to get a ticket first at a tent in the Yamen at the centre of the park. It is not possible to book online but when I arrived on a weekday morning, I was able to grab a ticket for immediate entry. You have 15 minutes to explore, which is not enough, before they clear the site for the next group. So you just need to go back to the tent again to get another free ticket. You first enter into an exhibition area about the Walled City's history. I suggest you to skip this and head straight into the exhibition area, which consists of several buildings with each door showcasing a different type of shop or scene.
Let's start with a corner shop selling all sorts of daily necessities.
For sprains and injuries, pay a visit to the traditional doctor who has different potions to fix your ailments.
The next shop is a fish ball production factory, a common local dish typically paired with noodles.
The Walled City was a lawless area, and unlicensed professionals were common, such as your local dentist.
The biggest room re-creates the dark alleys, mess of wires, and cramped conditions within the Walled City, where people carried out their lives as normal. Life goes on.
The final building has a restaurant and barber shop.
