Just a short walk away from Yuen Long's highrises is a large area of wetlands and fish ponds that extend towards a nature reserve that migratory birds frequent. Nam Sang Wai is actually the centre of a long-standing dispute between private interests, environmentalists, and the planning department on developing or conserving the land. Next door is Tai Sang Wai, where there are more fish ponds and fronted by the massive lowrise Fairview Park housing development.

The contrast on either side of the river cannot be bigger. To the left is the serene Nam Sang Wai with many scenic forested paths and cycling lanes, while an industrial estate sits on the other side.
