Located in the southeastern part of Hong Kong Island, Shek O is a world away from the urban jungle. A lowrise village with colourful homes and beautiful sea views, its beach is very popular with locals on holidays, and many hike the Dragon's Back trail above it.
Tai Tau Chau is located just offshore and a blue pedestrian bridge provides access to the short hiking trail. The "Lovers' Bridge" was reconstructed due to damage from Super Typhoon Mangkhut in 2018.
Residents have to rely on the narrow 2-lane Shek O Road to reach the rest of the city. The journey weaves along the hills to Tai Tam Road. Buses take about 20 minutes to reach Shau Kei Wan station.
The large beach area is visibly separated from the residential areas.
North of the town is the large Shek O Country Club and its golf course.
Beyond, Tseung Kwan O's skyscraper homes are visible on the other side of the coastline.
