
Just steps from Shatin Station and a short walk uphill is the Ten Thousand Buddhas Monastery, which was built in the 1950s and actually has some 12,800 miniature statues in the main temple, and a couple more larger ones along the uphill path.
The lowrise Sheung Wo Che village sits on the left side of the highway while the typical highrise suburb is on the other side with a number of public housing estates.
Located at the mouth of Shing Mun River, the Sha Tin Sewage Treatment Works opened in 1982 and is the largest in the city, occupying 28 hectares and able to process 340,000 cubic metres daily. The government is exploring to relocate these works to caverns and free up the land for housing.
