Aberdeen's typhoon shelter has historically been busy with fishing vessels, although in recent years more and more yachts have called home here. Shipyards still line part of the coast while tourist sampans frequent the waters. The Jumbo Floating Restaurant, once featured in tourist literature and visited by dignitaries such as Queen Elizabeth, was previously moored just offshore, closed during the pandemic, and towed offshore in 2022 for storage in Cambodia. It eventually sank in the South China Sea.
