The government has been selecting older public housing estates for redevelopment and to increase density. Pak Tin was built in the 1970s and has been undergoing its own redevelopment plan since 2014, after neighbouring Shek Kip Mei Estate went through the same earlier. The media reported that after redevelopment, an additional 2150 more residential units will be added. Pak Tin is located along the hillsides and once commanded a harbour view when the former Kai Tak Airport was in use as buildings along the flight path could not rise over 10 stories.
