Hong Kong Photo Gallery - Tung Chau Street Temporary Market

Nestled beneath a highway overpass just a short walk away from bustling market streets, the Tung Chau Street Temporary Market looks quite dead, including its Jade Market. Many buildings have closed for good except 2 for selling jade.

Its fortunes are starting to change as the Sham Shui Po Fabric Market (Pang Jai) moved here in 2023, with 16 original operators out of 49 from the previous location relocating here. That move was controversial, as some vendors decided to retire as the city's oldest outdoor fabric market was shut down after 45 years to be redeveloped into public housing.

Named Fabrimark, it uses a warm burnt orange colour logo to represent a new beginning for fashion design, once considered a sunset industry.
