Hong Kong Photo Gallery - Tuen Mun Lam Tei

Lam Tei's short main street retains its original charm and has not yet been invaded by big chain shops. Although only a short light rail ride from Siu Hong station on the West Rail, this area is still mostly lowrise with a maze of narrow laneways around it to form a village of its own.

The main market street is not sheltered from the elements, but has everything you need for daily essentials such as dim sum, groceries, bread, noodles, and hygiene products. Overshadowing the buildings is the Buddhist Miu Fat Monastery.

Within the maze of residential streets is a small section of murals depicting many cartoon characters with some more under construction. Created by 4Get and Lina Wong, they join a growing number of unexpected neighbourhoods that have used street art to enhance its environment.
