The Kwun Tong Town Centre redevelopment was first announced back in 1998. The site covers 5.35 hectares and the government aims to redevelop a series of old and dilapidated buildings into a new civic centre, commercial highrise, and residential quarters, affecting about 5000 residents.Developer interest waned in 2023 with only a single bid for areas 4 and 5, resulting in the Urban Renewal Authority to withdraw the site's development as market valuations halved from less than half a year ago. Just the previous September, the site was valued at between HKD $15 to 25 billion. New residences were added to the plan above the hotel, office, and shopping areas so the supertall's height will rise from 285m to 360m and its expected completion pushed further down to 2033. Meanwhile, the demolished and empty site was turned into a public space in late 2023 with playgrounds, art installations, and a lot of colour. April 7, 2023
