In the past, southern Taiwan was branded as a cultural desert. The National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts at Weiwuying opened in October 2018 after 15 years of construction has changed this. With 4 performance halls, including a 2000+ seat opera house and a 1900+ seat concert hall, the building occupies part of a former military base.
The public areas, not including the performance halls, are freely accessible for both the outdoor section on the ground floor as well as the indoor section upstairs. Tours in Chinese also depart regularly to explain about the site's history, regeneration efforts, and the venue's architectural design.
An outdoor deck offers nice views of the vast parkland surrounding the venue.

Getting here by MRT is easy. Weiwuying Station (O10) is a 10 minute ride from the city centre, and has its own dedicated subway exit. |
