KLIA2 Photo Gallery

KLIA2 is a new terminal dedicated to low-cost carriers. That is pretty much AirAsia in this part of the world, with almost 90% of flights from that one airline. The reviews have so far been bad, with AirAsia complaining the terminal is sinking, cracks are appearing in the taxiway, and that they should not have moved from its former bare-bones facility.

The express train into the city has also been extended to the new budget terminal. Inter-terminal transfers are an affordable 2 ringgit only.

My biggest complaint was trains only operate about every 15-20 minutes, when you get both the express and local trains departing in short secession.

A shopping mall starts right at the train station exit. There is no shortage of eating and shopping options here - much better than the old terminal!

You need to take a few sets of escalators up to reach the departures area. I suppose people tend to travel with hand luggage only so should not need to find an elevator, which didn't seem visible along the way.

The mall exits to an open but covered area that stretched a few door spaces and you enter inside again for the check-in counters. Not sure why this small area was exposed instead of being a continuous air-conditioned building.

The terminal is simple but simple decorations also give a much more pleasant atmosphere. The building was bursting with people already so perhaps it is time to think of an expansion? KLIA2 opened in 2014 and can handle 45 million passengers a year.
