At the foot of the Rokko mountains, foreign merchants and diplomats stayed in Kitanocho shortly after the port opened in 1868. Today, many of these mansions have been preserved and are open to the public, although the admission charges quickly add up.

Moegi House was built in 1903 for the US Consul-General.

From the upstairs window, there is a panoramic view of the city and the port.

A short walk away is Weathercock House, which was built for a German businessman in 1909.
