Kirkgate Market is famous as the birthplace of Marks & Spencer, and even today there is a stall in its branding although it sells other wares now. Michael Marks opened the Penny Bazaar stall in 1884 and went on to partner with Tom Spencer a decade later. The market opened in 1857 as the largest indoor market in Europe. The design included technological innovations such as a cool area for fishmongers.
Inside, the main market hall already has a lot of shops, but there are exits to other sections with even more shopping. On offer are seafood, cooked foods, drinks, and dry goods. There is plenty to see in here.
