Lisbon Photo Gallery - Parque das Nações

While Lisbon is a very beautiful historic city with lots of character, the Parque das Nações offers a complete contrast with contemporary architecture, exhibition centres, and a lovely waterfront promenade. The area was regenerated for Expo 98, which celebrated the oceans and attracted over 10 million visitors from late May to end of September.

Portugal is one of the original founding members of the Bureau International des Expositions, and already participated at the first expo in 1851 in London.

Standing at 145m and shaped like a sail, Vasco da Gama Tower is the city's tallest building. It is named after the Portuguese explorer set out to find a sea route to Asia in 1497.

The Telecabine cable car runs just off the waterfront promenade 30m above the Tagus for about 10 minutes.

It is a very nice walk along the promenade, enjoying both river and city views that will keep you busy.

These tiled designs are very Portuguese in design.
