Lisbon Photo Gallery - Sintra Day Trip Part 2

I decided to go on a day trip for my first full day in Lisbon, and I picked Sintra to make sure it was worth it. Palaces and castles dot the very lush landscape, enjoying the magnificent views. Welcome to a fairy tale.

Pena Palace dates from the 19th century and was built for Queen Maria II and Ferdinand. Previously occupied by a 16th century monastery, be sure to visit its garden, which has an extensive collection of exotic species incorporated alongside the hilly landscape.

The views from up here are incredible.

The Moorish Castle sits over 400m above sea level along the mountain ridge and dates from the 8-9th century. Despite its formidable defensive location with such a view across the land, crusaders invaded and captured it in 1147.
