Meaning Oak Town in Anglo Saxon, Acton was a spa and country retreat in the 17th and 18th centuries. Earmarked for regeneration in 2015 with prospects of Crossrail opening and a new HS2 station in the Old Oak area, a building boom is happening around North Acton station on the Central Line.
Ealing Council approved the demolition of the closed Castle pub into a new 462-unit co-living project in 2022. Tide Construction is building a part 32-storey and part 27-storey building named "The Castle", with a landscape terrace and sunrooms on the top.
Next door, another residential building is also rising. Named "The Portal", the original plan called for a 36-storey tower with 355 units. However, a change was requested subsequently to increase to 469 units and move the height up to 43 floors.
Across the street, the Perfume Factory is taking shape. Rebuilt on the former Elizabeth Arden factory, the original scheme has changed with part of the site sold in 2017 to Imperial College for student residences. The remaining section will have 2 residential towers.
The area around North Acton station is incredibly dense and a huge contrast to its surrounding areas of houses, drawing a lot of community criticism and opposition.
This lowrise building seems to reflect what life was like here before regeneration.
Located at a busy intersection in between 2 Tube stations, Royal Gateway consists of 300 residential units.
The area gained developer attention for regeneration following the Elizabeth Line's opening with projects rising around nearby Acton Main Line station as well. A journey to Tottenham Court Road takes only 14 minutes while Canary Wharf is 26 minutes away.
