Once an industrial wasteland within viewing distance of Parliament, the Battersea and Nine Elms areas have been regenerated into a new residential and business district. The project is Europe's largest with 20,000 new homes and 25,000 jobs, with Apple placing its new London offices at the former power station and a new US Embassy. The Northern Line has also been extended with 2 new stations that opened in September 2021.At the centre of the redevelopment is the power station, which once provided a fifth of London's electricity. It operated from the 1930s and closed in 1983, receiving Grade II listed status in 2007. Work began to redevelop the site in 2012 when the current shareholders bought stakes. The 42 acre site would include a shopping mall for the power station itself.
Outside, there are many new buildings of various shapes and sizes in this new neighbourhood.
