Liverpool Street Station Railway 200 (August 2025)As part of the Railway 200 celebrations, Liverpool Street station is hosting an exhibiton featuring 17 photos from the Landscape Photographer of the Year competition that include railways, as well as the history of this station following its 150th anniversary the previous year. Liverpool Street station opened on February 2, 1874 after 2 years of construction. Main line trains switched to operate out of here a year later after moving from Shoreditch. The exhibition is located upstairs from the boarding gates near the eastern entrance.
Of particular interest is the Kindertransport rescue mission in 1938-9, bringing children from Nazi Germany, Austria, Czechoslovakia, and Poland to the UK. Many of these children were the only family members that survived the Holocaust. Most had to travel by train to the Netherlands first, then boarded ferries for the UK, completing the final journey by train to Liverpool Street.
