In addition to the permanent exhibitions at the Guildhall Art Gallery, they also host some thematic specials from time to time.Underground (and Surface) Exhibition This exhibition combines Jock McFadyen's Tube-themed paintings with field recordings from the Northern and Central lines by Jem Finer so you can see and hear the Tube in an air-conditioned gallery setting. Most of Jock's paintings were created in his Hackney studio from memory, notes, and even the imagination.
America and London 2026 is the 250th anniversary of American independence. In several glass cabinets are a few documents and objects on display from the London Archives. These include the parish register where John Quincy Adams married Louisa Johnson in 1797. There is also a silk bookmark cmmemorating Lincoln's assassination.
A memorial service was held on Dec 1, 1963 at St. Paul's Cathedral after John F Kennedy was assassinated in November.
There are 2 letters from 1775 that acknowledged the City of London's links with America prior to independence. At the time, the City was opposed to British government policy on import taxes in the American colonies for commercial reasons.
The Honorary Freedom is the highest honour from the City of London, and was presented to Dwight Eisenhower in 1945 for his part in defeating Germany during World War II. The General of the Army at the time, he went on to become President from 1953-61.
