Fleet Street has long been associated with journalism and the printing industry, becoming home to the large newspaper groups such as The Times and the Daily Telegraph, with the printing presses placed in building basements that ran in the evening. However, the papers started leaving the area in the 1980s, and the last journalists left in 2016.While the journalists have left, this area is still busy with office workers.
There are a number of redevelopments happening in the neighbourhood. Salisbury Square will become a new 18-courtroom facility and police headquarters for the City of London. Designed by Eric Parry Architects, the new "Justice Quarter" will support 2500 jobs upon completion. September 9, 2024
