Fortnum & Mason was established in 1707 by a market stall merchant (Hugh Mason) and one of Queen Anne's footmen (William Fortnum). I was interested in its busy food hall and famous picnic hampers that originated from the hunting era. They also invented the Scotch egg in 1738 as a portable item for a long distance journey, as well as a Royal Blend that was a mix from Indian and Sri Lankan teas that went to King Edward VII.
