Heathrow Airport Terminal 1 Photo Gallery

Terminal 1 was the largest airport terminal in Europe when it opened in 1968 and was inaugurated by Queen Elizabeth II in April the following year. The first flight was on BEA to Edinburgh. As a result of the opening, the other terminal buildings were renamed, with the Europa Terminal becoming Terminal 2 and the Oceanic Terminal as 3. After 47 years of operations, it closed in June 2015 with the final flight on British Airways to Hanover. However, the building was still used for training and to house Terminal 2's baggage handling system. These photos were taken in 2011 for a departure on Icelandair.
