London Photo Gallery - Lewisham Gateway

Lewisham is less than 10 minutes by rail from London Bridge in the city's southeastern reaches. Just in front of the DLR station are a number of highrises under construction around the town centre. The regeneration project began when the development partner was chosen in 2004 and went on to demolish a traffic roundabout and re-route 2 rivers. The 14 acre site will offer over 1000 homes. Phase 1, the area closest to the train station, began in 2014 and has completed while the second and final phase is under way and almost complete.

This part of Lewisham has always been busy since the railway station opened in 1857 and a market opened in 1906. This area produced golden thread for military uniforms until the 1930s.
