Olympia once hosted many headline events, such a scene from Venice with canals and gondolas as well as the country's first airshow. The Grand Hall dates from the 1880s while the other halls were built in subsequent eras.

Olympia was a major exhibition venue throughout the 20th century until newer large facilities opened elsewhere in London, such as the Excel. It was acquired in 2017 and Heatherwick Studio and SPPARC designed the transformation, which costed 1.3 billion pounds.

It partially reopened in 2026 with 2 hotels, a large 3800-seat venue, and offices. Perched above is a long retail street with restaurants and bars. There is also a 83m-long ceiling screen above Emberton Walk that shows moving artworks.
