London Photo Gallery - Rotherhithe's Parks

Stave Hill Ecological Park is just a short walk from Canada Water station and offers a bit of a green oasis with a skyline view. The 5.2 acre park occupies the former Stave Dock, part of the Surrey Commercial Dock, which operated to the early 1970s as container shipping became prevalent. The docks were then filled in and the area sat empty.

The entire area has undergone regeneration and excavation for the redevelopment provided material to build this little hill. You only need to climb a short staircase climb to the observation platform for these views.

Canary Wharf is just behind you but for the best views without the trees in the way, just walk a little bit more to the Thames Path along the riverfront from here.

Albion Channel flows from Canada Water towards Surrey Water and the Thames. It is an artificial waterway built when the area was regenerated in the 1980s, with the excavated material used to build nearby Stave Hill.
