Wisteria is a climbing plant that flowers in the spring shortly after cherry blossoms and magnolias bloom. Wisteria is native to China, Japan, and the eastern United States. This plant was first brought to Britain from China and planted at the Griffin Brewery in 1816 outside what was then the Head Brewer's cottage. Kew Gardens also received a sapling but it couldn't grow successfully. The country's oldest specimen of wisteria can be found at Fuller's brewery. It was brought here from China in 1816 and now thrives on the former Head Brewer's house. Nearby Chiswick House's greenhouse building has a long stretch of wisteria plants running parallel to the building and in the garden. Some homeowners along the Thames-facing Mall also have planted these on their facades.
