Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya, formerly the Prince of Wales Museum, opened its doors in 1922. The building itself was completed in 1914 but served as a military hospital and exhibition venue before turning into a museum. The museum houses about 50,000 artifacts ranging from sculptures, bronzes, paintings, to porcelain.

Locals only need to pay 100 rupees to enter while foreigners are charged 3x that. A photography pass costs extra.

The sculpture gallery features many Indian religious figures.

Upstairs, the Himalayan Art Gallery showcases many artifacts from Nepal and the mountainous regions in northern India.

Parts of the museum (the East Wing) have closed for renovations.

These miniature paintings showcase in intricate detail life, culture, looks of people from yesteryear.

The Chinese and Japanese Gallery occupies part of the top floor. Many snuff bottles from China are on display in a large glass case.

See how the elite once fought in the Art and Armour gallery.

Tired by now, I realize there are more sculptures in the East Wing.

There is also a European painting gallery, which I wasn't particular with. I have received enough dosage of European art at the galleries, churches, and museums in Europe.
