Naha Photo Gallery - Makishi Market

Nestled within a covered pedestrian shopping arcade, Makishi had its origins as a black market for smuggled goods after World War II. The city assumed running the market in 1950, and it has since become a popular shopping destination dubbed the local kitchen. The present market building is a recent reconstruction completed in 2023. Fresh foods are available on the ground floor, while you can dine in one of several restaurants upstairs. You can even purchase fresh items downstairs and bring it upstairs to one of the restaurants to cook it for you.
