Osaka Photo Gallery - Itami Airport

Itami, or Osaka International Airport, opened in 1939 and was originally a military airport. The Americans took over after World War II and renamed it Itami Air Base. The airport code, OSA, was changed to ITM after Kansai opened in 1994 to avoid confusion. Today, it's a domestic airport although it can handle large widebody planes.

You can get to the airport by airport bus or the monorail, which connects to the metro network.

The land-side terminal building is split into 2 areas, mainly divided by airline with the 2 main groups in the country, ANA and Japan Airlines.

There is a wide observation deck that spans the entire length of the terminal with plenty of space to spread out and enjoy the activity.

There are the standard souvenir shops after security with a beautiful food court.

While the building is showing its age, it has been well-maintained and clean.
